This website has been on the Internet since 1995. Here's the story of how it began.
In the mid-90s, the people who had access to the Internet generally obtained it through one of three different service providers: AOL, CompuServe, or Prodigy. I decided to sign on with CompuServe.
At the time they were running a promotion where they gave new customers a free website. I tried it out, using their web page publishing software.
Almost immediately I realized that I could use this to market my dental practice, so I turned the site into a cosmetic dentistry information website. I took all the office handouts I would give to my patients to explain all the procedures we did in the office and posted them on the website.
My work attracted attention as being a valuable source of information about cosmetic dentistry, which motivated me further. I tried to get good search engine positioning. At that time, there was no Google. We had maybe eight or ten search engines, and different people had their favorites. We had Yahoo!, Altavista (my favorite), Webcrawler, Lycos, Excite, HotBot, and others. I learned the preferences of each search engine and tuned my web pages to try to score with each one.
In 1999 I changed my domain name from www.cosmeticdent.com to www.mynewsmile.com. In 2003, I went commercial with the website, deciding to turn it into a cosmetic dentist referral network. And in 2007 it became the most highly trafficked cosmetic dentistry website on the Internet.
Click here to visit our home page, to see an index of all the information we have here. It's a lot. I've been writing since 1995, and we have hundreds of pages of information. |
