Hello Dr. Hall,
\nI recently had my wisdom tooth extraction<\/a> from a oral surgeon. It was on the lower left jaw. The oral surgeon told me that it was very much inside the jaw and he had to cut the bone to extract it. After the\u00a0extraction I was having a severe pain in my ear and teeth so the oral surgeon put a dressing in it which immediately stopped the pain. After a week he removed that dressing and now again I am having pain sometimes in the ear, sometimes in a nerve that connects to head which causes headache and sometimes in the jaw itself.<\/p>\n

Dr. Hall, I want to know that usually in this case how many more days will be required to heal up everything. I am waiting for the day that I don’t have pain anywhere above my neck.<\/p>\n

Dear Purva,
\nIt appears that you have a dry socket<\/a>. I don’t know for sure without examining you, but that is what it appears to be. This is a frequent complication of the removal of a wisdom tooth<\/a>.<\/p>\n

What I would recommend is that you go back to the oral surgeon and have the dressing placed again. And I would ask the surgeon if he or she would be willing to give you a prescription for clindamycin–that could help this heal faster.<\/p>\n

Healing time after dry socket varies. Usually it is better in a week, but sometimes it can take two weeks or maybe more.
