Dr. Hall,
\nI had a wisdom tooth removal<\/a> 4 days ago. I was given to many shots of anesthesia, about 10 because the involved area would not get numbed. After 4 days, there is still some swelling, I have a big bruise, but the numbness on part of my chin and the gum area around my front lower teeth has not gone. I feel some tingling, but is too numbed. I feel the sides of my tongue though. I will appreciate if you can recommend me what to do to make the numbness go away.

\nIt sounds like the nerve to your lip has been injured, and it will just take time to heal. It was probably from all of the injections, but it could also be because the roots of your wisdom tooth<\/a> were near the nerve canal.<\/p>\n

Be glad you’re through with it and give it plenty of time to heal. If it’s badly bruised, it can take up to a month to feel back to normal.<\/p>\n

If your lip felt totally numb–no tingling–that’s a sign that the nerve is more seriously damaged and could take up to a year to get better or could even be permanently damaged. But for you, I’d give it up to a month.
