Question:
I have all porcelain crowns on my upper teeth–the front five have slightly stained some–maybe due to my smoking–what can I do?? Will Supersmile toothpaste help or is it too abrasive for porcelain? Help.
– thanks, Cindy from Virginia
Cindy,
Supersmile toothpaste was made for this situation – for the maintenance of cosmetic dental work. It is the most gentle toothpaste out there. It removes stains with its enzyme, calprox, that gently dissolves the protein pellicle that the tooth stains attach to. So I would start with trying Supersmile.
Whether the Supersmile will be strong enough to remove your stains that have been there for a long time, I can’t say for sure. If that doesn’t work, then I would go to one of our Virginia cosmetic dentists and see if they can polish the porcelain crowns, which should eliminate any stains. Don’t go to your family dentist for this. This is a specialized procedure and you need an expert cosmetic dentist for this.
We have a page devoted to tobacco stains on teeth, too.
Good luck,
